Labour’s Southmead Candidates:
Councillor Brenda Massey
Brenda Massey has represented Southmead for 10 years and lives in the area. I was elected as a Councillor for Southmead ward in a by-election in 2011, and have had the privilege of representing the community since then. It is a particularly exciting time for Southmead with several areas being developed to provide more housing, plus a new library and health centre. I am currently the Chair of Health Scrutiny at BCC and am very interested in the provision of health services in Bristol. I am also Vice-Chair of Avon Fire & Rescue Service.
Councillor Helen Godwin
(Cabinet Member for Women, Children and Young People)
Helen Godwin was elected in 2016 and also serves as Cabinet Member for Women, Families and Homes.
Did You Know?
Brenda and Helen have been working hard for Southmead for 10 and 5 years respectively. During that time we have successfully campaigned for safer roads, accessible parks, to save the Ranch, resurfaced roads, better parks and green spaces and improvements to our sheltered accommodations. Many sunny (and rainy) afternoons have been spent litter-picking with residents. We have also worked closely with residents on the community-led Arnside & Glencoyne regeneration project which will bring a new library, health centre and affordable housing for Southmead residents.
