‘Better Lives’ is the way we are approaching the challenge of Social Care into the future, with the pressures of funding cuts from Government and the aging population. Since leading on adult social care, I’ve spent a lot of time visiting a range of projects and providers, partners, voluntary sector and charitable organisations, the two Health Trusts, hearing from families and carers, those who support them, training organisations, and our own dedicated staff in a variety of settings.

We have kept Community Meals in-house, strengthened the home care market, are increasing the rate we pay, and ensuring that the Living Wage is paid. Working with communities and local groups, we want to keep people independent for longer, then have a much stronger home care offer, and reduce Bristol’s historic over-reliance on residential care which, as well as being the most expensive option, is also not what most people or their families want.
