Mayor Marvin Rees and local Labour councillors promised in our 2016 manifesto to help deliver 2,000 new homes – of which 800 will be affordable – per year by 2020. Projections published this month by Councillor Paul Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing, forecast* that Labour are not only on track to meet these targets but to substantially exceed them.
Figures suggest that Bristol could see almost 3,500 new homes built in 2019/20. More than 1,000 of these would be affordable – five times more than were built in the final year of the former Mayor’s administration.
