Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol, marching alongside your local Labour councillors, led one of the city’s largest rallies in modern times to call for investment – and an end to austerity.
From trade unionists to parents campaigning for fair funding for our schools, from anti-austerity activists to racial justice campaigners, Bristol showed that it was firmly behind our Mayor’s call for more investment in our city. So too did Bristol’s four Labour MPs in Westminster. But Government Ministers failed to show up to the launch of the joint green paper co-authored by leaders of UK cities with populations totalling more than 20 million people. The ball is in the Government’s court, but Bristol will keep making the case for more resources.
